Tommy Lundberg, PhD, is an assistant senior lecturer at the Division of Clinical Physiology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. He graduated with an MSc in Exercise Physiology from Loughborough University, UK, in 2009. He defended his PhD thesis on the effects of concurrent aerobic and resistance training on skeletal muscle adaptations at Mid Sweden University in 2014. His current research focuses on exercise physiology and skeletal muscle adaptation to exercise in different contexts, including athletic performance. As part of this work, he has also investigated sex differences in performance and the effects of hormone therapy in transgender people. Tommy is also a former football player in the Finnish first league and has worked as a scientific advisor for several sports federations, especially concerning eligibility criteria for women’s sport.
