Professor Vidya Mohamed-Ali is the deputy head for the Department of Inflammation and Rare Diseases and the deputy director, Centre for Metabolism & Inflammation, Division of Medicine, London, UK. From 2018 she was also Scientific Advisor, Anti-Doping Lab Qatar (ADLQ), (Director of Life Sciences Research, ADLQ from 2012 – 2017). She is a member of the Health, Medicine and Science Commission, International Olympic Committee (from 2015). Prior to joining ADLQ, Professor Mohamed-Ali worked on reproductive endocrinology in Professor Robert G Edwards’ (Nobel Laureate 2010) team at Bourn Hall Clinic, University of Cambridge (1983-1989). She then joined UCL (1990) as a Junior Research Fellow and was tenured in 2002, received a Division of Medicine Teaching Award, served on the teaching committee of two post-graduate courses and initiated a non-resident PhD programme. Her group was the first to show in vivo release of interleukin-6 and leptin from human adipose tissue. She formed the Adipokines and Metabolism Research Group at University College London (2001-2013), investigating the endocrine functions of the adipocyte and its consequences in non-communicable diseases. Vidya has served on the committee of the UK Association of the Study of Obesity, editorial board of Obesity Facts, member of the American Endocrine Society and Senior Associate member of the Royal Society of Medicine and member of Qatar University Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences’ Advisory Board (2015-2016). Professor Mohamed-Ali has contributed to over 300 conference proceedings and media output for the wider public and attracted funding for several student stipends and grant funding of £2 million, published over 100 peer-reviewed papers on anti-doping research and non-communicable diseases, four reviews and contributed chapters to three books. Her work has been cited over 8000 times, with an H-index of 55.
