About the Program
The Health, Medicine and Science Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has recognised the importance of evidence-based prescribing for the health and wellbeing of athletes. As part of its commitment to supporting the health and performance of athletes and to the continuing professional development of those who care for them, the IOC Health, Medicine and Science Commission offers this program on Prescribing and Drug Management in Sport for Physicians. The program embraces a focussed curriculum delivered by an international faculty.
The program focuses on medical conditions that are frequently encountered by athletes, including sports injuries, and on the pharmacological management of such conditions. Consideration is given to issues that influence prescribing medications for such conditions, including the prohibited status of drugs in sport and the principles of safe medicines management by team physicians. The program also covers the principles of advising on safe and evidence-based nutrition and supplement use for athletes.
The program is delivered on behalf of the IOC by sportsoracle ltd., and operates under the academic oversight of the Program Directors and an international Academic Advisory Board, who advise on and are responsible for all aspects of academic standards in this program, including:
• Quality assurance of syllabus content
• Moderation of student assessment
The IOC Certificate in Prescribing and Drug Management in Sport for Physicians is awarded by the International Olympic Committee.
